HHP ANNOUNCES SPRING BREAK STUDY ABROAD TRIP | 10/07

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The College of Health & Human Performance is pleased to announce its 2005 Spring Break Study Abroad trip to Rome, Italy. The three-credit class is open to University of Florida undergraduate and graduate students. However, space is limited to the first 24 students who submit their applications and meet the requirements.

The cost for the trip is $1,200 (undergraduate student) and $1,590 (graduate student). Tuition is included, and Bright Futures will cover the tuition cost of $300. A $250 deposit is due to the UFIC by Nov. 1, 2004. The cost of the trip includes the following: tuition, accommodations, breakfast, entrance fees, transportation in Rome, professional English speaking tour escort and daily private tours of sites. The cost does not include airfare.

The course objectives are to provide students with the opportunity to develop an appreciation of ancient and modern Rome sport, physical activity and recreation; and evaluate Rome’s impact on modern sport, physical activity and recreation. Students also will gain basic insight into the nature and value of historical inquiry and research. The class also will illustrate the contributions of ethnic groups to global and American sport, physical activity and recreation.

Tentative site visits in Rome include: Rome Soccer Stadium, Appian Way, Theater of Marcellus, Circus of Maxentius, Catacombs, Coliseum, Roman Forum, Basilica of Maxentius, Golden House of Nero, Pantheon, Baths of Caracalla, Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica, Vatican Museums and Pompeii excavations.

The course (PET 4905c/PET 5936) will be a semester-long class. Students will have assignments prior to the trip to Rome, as well as projects during and after the trip.
