Biography:
Charles E. Byrd, Ph.D. has been teaching at the University of Florida since 2000, where he is currently a research assistant professor for the Department of Tourism, Recreation and Sport Management. He currently serves as the Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator for numerous research/service projects funded by the Florida Department of Education, Florida Department of Transportation, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, and the EdVenture Group. Byrd primarily serves as the executive director for the University of Florida’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) Leadership Project. In addition to his duties with TRSM, Byrd is a Psychology Fellow with the College of Medicine and affiliate faculty with the Department of Psychology.
Byrd has had more than 10 years of teaching and research experience, and has been an invited speaker for agencies such as the United States Department of Education and the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives. He has received numerous awards, including the Outstanding Researcher Award (2003), the Presidential Recognition for Outstanding Achievement and Contributions to the University of Florida (2004), the UF Superior Accomplishment Award (2008), and the Award of Excellence from the Florida Afterschool Alliance (2008).
He is a member of the North American Society of Sport Management, the Sport Marketing Association, AAHPERD, American Evaluation Association, and an inducted member of the American Psychological Association.
